Rains and strong winds struck many parts of Sattari taluka on Saturday evening, causing a few electricity poles and trees to come crashing down and leading to power outages.
Rains and strong winds were reported at about 4 pm in Valpoi, Thane, Nagargao, Honda, Khotoda and Khadki, disrupting normal life in these areas.
Electricity poles came crashing down in Gawane area of Khotoda, causing power outages in Gawane, Malpan, Surungali and Shelpe.
Valpoi Electricity Office Assistant Engineer Deepak Gawas rushed to the spot along with other officials and began the repair work.
“The work will continue till late night and we hope to restore power supply by tonight,” said Gawas.
Roads were blocked at three places as trees uprooted and fell down in parts of Khotoda Panchayat area. The Valpoi fire brigade rushed to the sites and cleared the fallen trees.
