Remand of accused in Mandovi bridge accident case extended

The trial court in Panaji has extended Ankit Triparty’s judicial custody by 10 days in connection with the Mandovi bridge accident that occurred last Thursday.

Triparty, charged with reckless and drunken driving, appeared before the court after his three-day judicial custody ended on Monday.

The Odisha native, driving a rent-a-car, collided head-on with an oncoming bike on the Mandovi Bridge.

The bike rider, identified as Javed Sadekar, was flung into the river, and his body was recovered after a 30-hour search operation conducted by police, fire personnel, the Indian Navy, and the Coast Guard.

The accused was detained and thereafter arrested soon after the accident. He was subsequently remanded to three days of judicial custody.
