The long-pending plan to bring government offices in Mapusa under one roof is set to get a fresh push, with the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) proposing a multi-storey Government Administrative Complex at Morod at an estimated cost of Rs 110 crore.
GSIDC chairman and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said the proposed complex would house various government departments currently operating from different locations across Mapusa. This would make it easier for people to access government services and improve coordination between departments.
Lobo said the project has received technical approval and the proposal is now being processed for financial sanction from the government.
The complex is aimed at addressing the long-standing problem of government offices being scattered across Mapusa, forcing residents to visit different locations to access related services.
However, the project is not new. The Government had announced plans for a Government Administrative Complex at Morod in its 2017 Budget, stating that the existing infrastructure was inadequate and that bringing departments under one roof would help address public grievances.
GSIDC later floated a tender in 2019 for construction of the complex, covering civil, plumbing, electrical, lift, HVAC and fire-fighting works.
The renewed proposal, estimated at Rs 110 crore, will now have to secure financial sanction before moving to the next stage.
The project is expected to create a centralised administrative hub for residents of Mapusa and surrounding areas and reduce the need to travel between different government offices for routine services.
