In new turn of fate, Ravi Jana’s family is in two minds over lodging a formal complaint with insurance amount of Rs 30 lakh posing as a strong deterrent. The family had previously got in touch with Verna police on March 2 raising suspicions over the death of Jana under mysterious circumstances.
Verna police on February 20 had registered a case of unnatural death of the 26 year-old pharma employee who passed away after falling from the fourth floor of Stay Inn residential complex, Kesarval at around 2.30 am. However, reports the next day had the police stating that a ‘thief’ fell to his death from fourth floor of the building.
Speaking to The Goan from Balasore, Orissa, Ravi’s cousin Krushna Jana stated, “Ravi’s brother, Rabindra Kumar Jana, who came to claim the body from Verna was told by the investigating officer probing the case that lodging a complaint suspecting foul play will complicate matters during insurance claim.
The investigating officer, was however, unavailable for comment.
It was informed that Ravi had four life insurance policies with HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company. Three of these were worth Rs five lakh each and one was worth Rs 15 lakh. His father is the beneficiary of the amount of all four policies.
Krushna said the family confirmed this with an advocate and also HDFC Bank branch in their locality in Orissa. The family has been told that the policy amount will be sent through HDFC branch at Bhubaneshwar.
Hailing from Balasore, Orissa, Jana was employed as a production officer at Watson Pharma Pvt Ltd located in Verna industrial estate and drew a salary of Rs 22,000 per month. Jana had completed his diploma in engineering and was the only earning member of his family.
Meanwhile, PI Shailesh Narvekar of Verna police station disclosed that Ravi’s phone was taken into custody from his apartment on February 20. The call details have been probed and the phone records show mostly internet usage, it was revealed.
“Ravi was alive till 1.45 am as per his roommates’ statement. They have said that he had disappeared at night like this once before without explanation,” PI Narvekar said.
In addition to this, it was revealed that the post mortem reports from Hospicio point to head injury as cause of death while observing a broken left ankle and lacerations on liver in consistent with the fall.
