Calangute Sarpanch Joseph Sequeira on Wednesday requested the MLAs to introduce and debate a bill against dance bars in the forthcoming assembly session.Sequeira also said that the panchayat was on track in taking action against all the illegal dance bars that were being operated in the village.
“I appeal to all the MLAs to bring a bill during the assembly session on January 16 to stop the operation of dance bars and clubs in Calangute and Goa,” Sequeira said.
He said the process to shut down the dance bars was going on and he was positive that the activity will be completely stopped.
“We have so many authorities “ police, collector, GCZMA, pollution control board, etc “ but nobody is taking action. The panchayat does not have the power…,” he said.
According to the sarpanch, the Panchayat Raj Act was vast and therefore the panchayat was forced to follow the procedure so as to not allow the offenders a way out.
“If we do not follow the process, the parties concerned will go to court and bring a stay on the process,” he said.
He said the dance bar owners have been called for a personal hearing in the panchayat on Thursday.
“The personal hearing will go on for the whole day from morning to evening,” he said.
