The selfie craze had a devastating effect on two women tourists, who were severely injured while clicking one in Anjuna recently.

Anjuna Police on Thursday have requested the sub-divisional magistrate to record the statement of the two seriously injured women.

Police sources informed that five tourists were recently injured, two of whom seriously, after falling off a cliff while clicking selfies at Anjuna.

The incident occurred on February 22 at a hillside wooden cottage where the tourists were staying.

According to the police, the women were clicking selfies by leaning on a railing in the cottage which suddenly gave way.

“Two women fell on their backs and were admitted in a private hospital. According to the doctors the women have injured their spines,” PI Paresh Naik told The Goan.

According to the police, the family members of the two injured women refused to lodge a complaint. The police have now requested the sub-divisional magistrate to record their statements.

The two injured women, Rachitra and Kashisma, are in their late 20s, police said.

The selfie rage has cost quite a few of lives across India in the past.

In a recent case, in September last year, a Japanese died while taking a selfie after falling off the steps of the Taj Mahal.
