The Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection in the State of Goa in September was Rs 429 crore, registering a 35% increase over the collections in the same month last year, officials said.
GST collections in September 2021 were Rs 319-crore.
The increase however is explained by the fact that last year the economy was in a “comatose” state battered as it was by pandemic-related curbs and lockdowns in the face of the ‘delta’ strain of the Coronavirus which caused havoc in the State and the country.
Meanwhile, the Centre has approved the release of Rs 488 crore as its share of the State Disaster Mitigation Fund (SDMF) to Goa and two other States -- Uttar Pradesh and Punjab -- for the 2021-22 fiscal.
The fund when disbursed is meant for mitigation activities as per the Centre’s guidelines and involving local level and community based interventions to reduce risks from disasters.
CM Pramod Sawant thanked the Centre for releasing the fund. “I thank the Union Home Minister Shri @AmitShah ji for releasing Rs. 488 crore to Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Goa under the SDMF” Sawant tweeted.
