Fr Carmo Das Chagas Antonio Martins, Parish Priest of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, Fatorda, passed away on Saturday morning. He was 72.
Hailing from Orlim-Salcete, Fr Martins was born on April 27, 1950 and was ordained priest on April 27, 1977. He served in the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman as Assistant Parish Priest at the Grace Church in Margao and the Immaculate Conception Church in Panaji. He was then posted as Chaplain at Caranzalem and was also the Notary at the Chancellery of the Archdiocese.
As parish priest, the late Fr Martins served in Taleigao, Calangute, Grace Church (Margao) and Fatorda. During his service as parish priest, he was also the Dean of the Panaji, Calangute and Margao deaneries.
Late Fr Martins had also served as executive secretary of the Diocesan Centre for Social Communications Media.
The funeral cortege will leave his residence on Monday at 3.30 to the St Michael’s Church, Orlim, for Eucharistic celebration, followed by burial.
