With the market drain totally clogged and the PDA retail market witnessing flooding, the SGPDA on Friday deployed a group of labourers to unclog and desilt the drains.
Tons of silt and waste was removed from the market drains as the PDA has finally kick-started the cleanliness drive in the market.
PDA Chairman, MLA Krishna Daji Salkar along with Member Secretary Sheikh Ali personally supervised the drain cleaning work in the market on Friday evening. “The incessant rains have resulted in the waterlogging of the market. Hence, the cleanliness drive has been launched to clean up the gutters,” he said.
Incidentally, the vendors had been demanding the cleaning of gutters and the storm water drains in the PDA retail market for a long time now, since these drains were posing a nuisance and a health hazard to the vendors as well as the shoppers visiting the market.
The PDA chairman said a meeting will be called by next week with the stakeholders as well as with two MLAs Digambar Kamat and Vijai Sardesai to work out a permanent solution to the issues plaguing the PDA retail market.
