“Works have not been delayed, but it really becomes difficult for us to find labour. The State government pays us Rs 253 per worker per day, while the workers demand Rs 550. Nobody is ready to work for lower wages. During this season, migrant workers who are mainly from the areas of Karnataka, go to their native villages for festivals and agricultural activities and return after August,” he said. Stating that 90 per cent of the city has been cleaned a month back, he said, “I urge the commercial establishments and shopkeepers not to dump waste in front of their shops. They have to co-operate with us to keep the city clean.” He also urged the authorities to complete the Miramar-Dona Paula road at the earliest as it is leading to chaos in the area during peak hours. Nearly 30,000 dry and wet waste bins were distributed free of cost to Panjimites, which were received by the Corporation through Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA). The green and black bins have a capacity of 10 litres meant for residential colonies while the green and black bins with 20 litre capacity are for commercial establishments.
