Stating that the SIT (land grabbing) has received over a hundred complaints, SP Crime Nidhin Valsan informed that they are concentrating on those complaints where there is organised crime syndicate involvement.
“We are receiving a lot of complaints and any case related to land grabbing is transferred here, but we are concentrating on those complaints where there is an involvement of organised crime syndicate. At the moment, 35 cases are being investigated, 28 of which have been transferred from other districts and units,” Valsan told reporters.
“In seven cases, FIRs have been registered leading to the arrest of nine accused. Among the arrested are two staff from the archives department,” he added
“The majority of the cases that are being reported are North Goa with Bardez topping the list. We are receiving cases from South Goa as well,” he added.
“Mostly, land which doesn’t have owners has been targeted by the accused. But properties, where owners are not in India, are also a target,” said Valsan, while urging people to have a recheck in the land records as well as the possession regarding their properties, and not to hesitate in filing a complaint if there are any issues.
On the status of Aires Rodrigues' complaint against MLA Jit Arolkar, Valsan said investigations are underway.
To a question about whether the accused getting bail is demoralising, Valsan said the courts are setting conditions and if the SIT feels that the accused is not cooperating then they won't hesitate to approach the court to cancel the bail.
‘73 properties sold on govt land in Sanguem’

SP Crime Nidhin Valsan said one case of land grabbing of government land has come to light at Sanguem and the Mamlatdar has complained that around 73 properties have been sold.
“It has been happening since 2013. The properties notified as government land have been sold,” he said.
'Police creating awareness to prevent cybercrimes'

Appealing to people not to fall prey to cybercrimes, SP Crime Nidhin Valsan said the police are spreading public awareness on the prevention of cybercrimes.
“Prevention is the most important step which people have to take against cybercrime. It is because of ignorance or carelessness that most cybercrimes happen. So as an enforcement agency, we are spreading maximum awareness by reaching students, industries, etc through various platforms,” Valsan informed.
“Cybercrime has to be tackled by way of prevention and detection. The cybercrime police station is doing a commendable job in tracking the criminals. But the most important part is spreading awareness,” he added.
