Strong winds strike Bandora, Shiroda; three houses damaged

PONDA

Twelve members of a family at Talulem-Bandora escaped unhurt after a tree collapsed on their house, following strong winds on Wednesday midnight.

Two other houses were partially damaged at Tariwada-Bandora and Shiroda, while an areca nut plantation was also destroyed by gusty winds.

One house belonging to Anand Chari at Talulem was damaged after three trees came crashing down on it. No one was injured in the incident.

According to members of the Chari family, the strong winds struck at about 12.30 am, when everyone was asleep, but all the 12 members escaped unhurt.

It may be recalled that in 2013, 14 houses were damaged 1 km away from Talulem following strong winds. Most of the damaged houses were then repaired with the help of Madhavrao Dhavalikar Trust (MDT).

PWD Minister and local MLA Sudin Dhavalikar on Thursday visited the affected area to take stock of the damage. He then announced that the losses would be borne by his Trust.

“Ponda taluka has faced heavy losses since beginning of the rainy season. MDT will help to build the damaged house in the area,” he said.

A number of trees have uprooted in Talulem, destroying areca nut plantation and electricity poles. Another house at Tariwada-Bandora was partially damaged.

Trees also uprooted at Shiroda and Tishem-Borim, while an electricity pole was damaged at Tishem after a tree fell on it. One house at Shiroda was partially damaged as well.

The Kundaim fire station personnel received a call from Bhoma on Wednesday night after a tree fell on the road, while on Thursday morning they attended to a similar call at Khandola.
