with SWR officials claiming that the railways are willing to construct the subway on condition the State government chips in 50 per cent of the cost.
In another development, J Ashok Kumar, Secretary to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has told Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias that necessary action is being taken by the GSIDC and the PWD for construction of ROB/ RUB at the level crossing at the Chandor railway crossing.
A delegation led by Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias along with Guirdolim Sarpanch Vincie Piexoto and Paroda Sarpanch Deepak Kharangate and Atanasio and Patwin recently called on the SWR GM A K Gupta and deputy Chief Engineer, Bridges S A Jaganath at Hubli and submitted a memorandum highlighting the hardships faced by the villagers of Chandor and Guirdolim over the frequent closure of the railway level crossing.
The deputy Chief Engineer, SWR bridges, Jaganath in a written communication to the Cuncolim MLA made it clear that the Chandor railway crossing qualifies for construction of ROB/RUB on cost sharing basis. He, however, hastened that the Goa government has been advised to give consent for construction of grade separate at the level crossing.
“Consent is still awaited from Goa government. After the receipt of consent from the State government, the work will be processed in the works programme,” Jaganaath told the Cuncolim MLA.
In the meanwhile, the secretary to the Chief Minister has asked the Cuncolim MLA to contact officials of the GSIDC and PWD since necessary action is being taken by the two agencies for construction of the ROB/RUB at the Chandor level crossing.
Clafacio told The Goan that since the South Western Railway has promised to take the work of the subway at the Chandor railway crossing on condition that the local government bears 50 per cent of the project cost, he would take up the issue with Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on top-most priority.
Villagers of Chandor and Guirdolim led by the Cuncolim MLA had served a month’s deadline on the railway authorities and the Goa government after taking out a silent march from the football ground to the Chandor railway station a month ago.
