The Water Resources Department has constituted a task force jointly headed by the Principal Chief Engineer of Water Resources and the Director of Agriculture “to identify the areas and suggest measures to improve the irrigation and agriculture yield in the State.”
Besides the two heads of departments, the task force will also comprise of Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, the Director of Fisheries, the Regional Director of ICAR, Old Goa and the Superintending Engineer of the Central Planning Organization (CPO), of the WRD.
The Task Force shall form teams for each district or taluka to identify areas in the State which receive regular irrigation water and agricultural inputs, areas which receive regular irrigation water but irregular agricultural inputs, areas which receive irregular irrigation water but regular agricultural inputs and areas which can be identified as potential for supply of regular irrigation water and agricultural inputs.
The task force has also been ‘tasked’ with suggesting means to provide required supply of irrigation water and agriculture inputs for increasing area under agriculture and enhance yield in the State, to suggest measures for improvement keeping in mind technological advances in vogue and if necessary suggest schemes for implementation and has been given six months to submit its recommendations to the government.
