Pleading with the taxi operators in Pernem taluka not to oppose the Tourist Taxi App for taxi services at the Manohar International Airport in Mopa, Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar assured to support them if the State government failed to address the grievances of taxi operators.

Interacting with the taxi operators at a meeting in Pernem, Arlekar said the Tourist Taxi App created by the government will be operated through a special counter at the Manohar International Airport at Mopa, especially for taxi operators in Pernem taluka.

“Hence, more and more taxi operators should register their names and do not oppose for the sake of opposing. Those who do not own a taxi should not interfere in this issue and talk in terms of agitation,” said Arlekar

Stating that over 700 taxi operators have registered their taxis on the App, Arlekar also assured that if the government failed to do justice to the taxi operators, he would voice their woes and stand in solidarity with them.

Later speaking to the media, Arlekar said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had assured him that a counter would be opened at the Mopa airport for the Pernem-based taxi operators, and everything would be handled in a systematic manner through the App.

“Those who do not own a taxi will be assisted by the government to get one. Hence, I have asked the locals to wait and watch before taking any strong action against the App,” said the MLA.

Taxi operators in Pernem have insisted that the government should make available a Yellow-Black taxi stand for them at the Mopa airport and only locals should get to operate the business.

The operators have threatened an agitation on January 2 if the issues of taxi operators are not resolved.
