Temperature hits 36°C in Goa; thunderstorms expected

PANAJI: Goa is experiencing a temperature spike, reaching 36°C, up by 1°C from yesterday and surpassing the normal by 2.1°C. Relief is anticipated as the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts thunderstorms until May 17, with light rainfall until May 20. A Yellow alert is extended for Goa until May 17, warning of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds up to 30-40 kmph, mainly in isolated areas.


The IMD predicts the monsoon's arrival in the South Andaman Sea and Nicobar by May 19, with above-normal rainfall between June and September, reaching 106% of the long-term average and promising relief from the heat.
