Panaji: A hit-and-run case has now been converted into a murder investigation. The Pernem Police Station conducted a thorough investigation into the death Devidas Konadkar, aged 55, whose body was discovered at Dadachiwadi, Dhargal, Pernem, Goa.
According to SDPO Pernem Jivba Dalvi, the police initially identified a goods carrier vehicle, bearing registration number GA 03 N 3662, with the help of local residents. Further inquiries led to the apprehension of suspected individuals.
Upon interrogation, it was revealed that on Monday evening, around 9:00 PM, the accused individuals parked their rickshaw in a hazardous position on a curved road, obstructing traffic flow. Konadkar questioned the driver and occupant of the goods carrier rickshaw, resulting in a confrontation. The situation escalated when the accused pursued Konadkar, who was riding his Yamaha Fascino Scooter with registration number GA 11 F 3368. The accused intentionally collided with Konadkar's scooter, causing his death, and fled the scene.
The Pernem Police arrested the driver of the goods carrier rickshaw, identified as Mohit Kumar, aged 19, and his co-occupant, Abhishek Kumar, aged 20. Both individuals, hailing from Badshapur Pachgai, Tehsil-Khurja, District-Buland Shehar, Uttar Pradesh, confessed to their involvement in the incident.
Post-mortem was conducted on Konadkar's body, following which it was handed over to his relatives. The investigation teams, under the supervision of SDPO Pernem Jivba Dalvi, were assisted by officers including Pi Mopa Narayan Chimulkar, Pi Sachin Lokre, and Psi's Navneet Goltekar, Ashish Porob, and Pravin Shimepuruskar. They collected crucial evidence, including CCTV footage, and conducted a combing operation in the nearby forest with the help of locals to apprehend the accused individuals.
The investigation is ongoing under the guidance of PI Pernem Sachin Lokre, under the supervision of SP North Akshat Kaushal IPS and SDPO Pernem Jivba Dalvi.
