Will the PDA retail fish market and the stinking wholesale fish market finally see a turn around by Goa Statehood Day on May 30?
While the SGPDA has opened the tender to refurbish the retail fish market at an estimated cost of Rs 1.14 crore, the consultant appointed by the GSIDC for wholesale fish market has set in motion the process to take the various stakeholders into confidence, including the traditional ramponkars and magkars, trawler owners and the traders.
“The SGPDA has opened the tender for the PDA retail fish market renovation. The lowest bid received for the project is pegged at Rs 1.14 crore. The PDA has also got an Assistant engineer who will hasten the process of finalisation of the bid and awarding the work order,” TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai said.
On the wholesale fish market, the Minister said that GSIDC has roped in a consultant to prepare the design and plans of the market which will be kept open for public scrutiny.
Saying that he had a marathon three-hour meeting with the Chief Minister on a host of issues pertaining to Fatorda constituency, Sardesai said the Chief Minister has agreed to engage the GSIDC to prepare a plan for the Borda multi-purpose complex to re-orient the entire place to meet the growing requirements. “I have requested the Chief Minister to give a new look for the multipurpose complex at Borda hosting the college, higher secondary, vocation stream and ITI. The playground should be redone on par with international standard,” he said, adding that the multipurpose complex has emerged as a major centre of learning after the closure of the Chowgule higher secondary school.
The TCP Minister further pointed out that he has taken up with the Chief Minister the issue over the dilapidated condition of the government quarters at Pajifond and Borda. “At my last Sunday Dialogue exercise, residents of Junta quarters had drawn my attention to the pathetic condition of the government quarters and had asked for repairs. Since the cost of upkeep and repairs may turn up equivalent to construction of a new building, I have requested the Chief Minister to depute a GSIDC team to inspect the old building and explore the possibilities of building new residential structures,” he said, adding that the Chief Minister has agreed to positively consider his request.
In the meantime, the TCP Minister said he has requested the Chief Minister to engage the services of the consultant appointed by the erstwhile Kamat government to plan for the Margao bus terminus.
“Since the previous government had already paid the consultancy fees amounting to over Rs 4 crore, I feel the government should use the services of the consultant to work out the design as per our needs and requirements,” Sardesai added.
