Toddy tappers hold annual litany

Members of the All Goa Toddy Tappers Association on Friday held their annual litany in honour of the patron saint of Goa, St Francis Xavier at its Margao office.
After the litany, Association president Gaspar Afonso distributed cheques to the kith and kin of
the toddy tapers, who have passed away over the last one year.
Afonso told The Goan that many a toddy tapper, who has been incapacitated and bed ridden after
years of toddy tapping, are in need of government help and assistance. “There are many toddy
tapping families who are waiting for the government to bail them out by providing them financial
assistance,” Afonso said, adding that a delegation of the toddy tappers had recently called on the
Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar with a host of grievances.
