Turbulence hits Cong leadership

Luizinho meets Sonia, firm on quitting n All eyes on Reginaldo

MARGAO
After a brief lull, the Congress camp was in the news on Thursday with Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Luizinho Faleiro insisting with Congress President Sonia Gandhi that he be relieved from the PCC post.
While Faleiro returned home Wednesday night, sources in the Congress said Sonia has told the PCC president to stay put for some time since the Congress leadership is busy with the Assembly elections in Assam and other States.
Sources said that Faleiro had put in his papers in October last with a plea to the Congress president to relieve him from the PCC responsibility. Though it’s five months since he had put in his papers, it is learnt that Faleiro has this time round made a forceful plea to the Congress president to relieve him of his responsibility as he was not too happy with the state of affairs in the Goa Congress.
Sources in the know said the Congress high command may finally veer to the idea of relieving Faleiro from the PCC responsibility, but is yet to take a call on his successor, though the name of Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has been doing the rounds.
It is learnt that Reginaldo was in the national capital around a fortnight ago and is believed to be not averse in taking over the party reigns ahead of the 2017 poll.
In the meantime, the presence of former chief minister and Margao MLA Digambar Continued from P1
Kamat in Delhi in the last two days has triggered speculations in Congress circles that the High Command may effect a change in the leadership of both the PCC and the Congress Legislature Party.
Kamat’s presence in Delhi is believed to have not gone down well with the Vishwajit Rane camp as the Jr Rane has reportedly told his close aides that he will not accept any change in the CLP leadership headed by his father Pratapsing Rane.
Kamat, however, told The Goan from Delhi late Thursday that he was in the national capital in connection with the meetings of the Swimming Federation of India of which is the President.
While news spread back home that Kamat was seeking an appointment with top Congress leaders in Delhi, Kamat said he was pre-occupied with the Federation meetings and had no time for politics. He is expected to return home on Friday.
