PORVORIM
Appealing to youth not to depend on government jobs, Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte has asked them to stand on their own feet by turning to traditional professions like farming and carpentry.
The MLA was speaking at Socorro after inaugurating the harvesting machine purchased by him for the farmers of the village.
Khaunte praised the youth for taking up farming activities after having lost their jobs due to the pandemic.
“Farmers must keep aside their political differences and stay united to help them get their grievances redressed. They should preserve their fields for the next generation.
The former minister also took a dig at Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar for failing to address the Mhadei water diversion issue and for meeting only a few select farmers during his two-day visit to Goa.
“During his visit to Goa, Javadekar did not address the Mhadei water issue, which is the lifeline of Goa. Besides, he also spoke to a few select farmers in Goa. He should have visited villages and spoken to farmers to understand their grievances,” said Khaunte.
ZP members Gupesh Naik and Vaishally Satardekar, Penha de Franca Sarpanch Swapnil Chodankar, Kishor Sawant and Socorro Panch Sanjay Pednekar also spoke on the occasion.
