In a sudden move, the State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday withdrew appointments of all State spokespersons with immediate effect.Party State President Sadanand Tanavade said that they will announce a new panel of spokespersons within the “next two to three days.”
“Our central leadership had asked for the reconstitution of the panel of spokesmen for adding a few more names to it,” he further said.
The decision incidentally comes three days after Goa BJP spokesman Giriraj Vernekar questioned his panel member Savio Rodrigues over the Carnival parade in Fatorda wherein the latter showed his inclination to Goa Forward Party Chief Vijai Sardesai.
On February 15, Rodrigues tweeted “No politics at Carnival Time and I will stand shoulder to shoulder with you and @VijaiSardesai because that is what friends do and what Goa is about “ friendship and togetherness at all festivals and carnivals.”
“My good friend @VijaiSardesai & team organises Carnival Celebrations at Fatorda. Along with my family I attend it because it is well-organised & has a finesse to it. I plan to attend this time too. That he belongs to opposition does not hinder me from appreciating his efforts,” the BJP leader had tweeted before the police denied permission to hold the festival in the GFP constituency this year.
Tanavade refused that the decision to withdraw the spokesmen panel has links to Rodrigues’ alleged closeness to BJP’s arch-rival Sardesai.
