Verna police on Thursday arrested a 56-year-old businessman from Utorda, after the supreme court rejected his anticipatory bail petition.
According to Mormugao DySP Sunita Sawant, the accused, Aleixo Pereira, had around three cases under the arms act in Verna police station, in which one case also attracted a section under the Goa Childrens Act.
DySP Sawant further said Pereira had 3 cases in Verna PS, 13 cases in Colva PS, 2 cases in Panjim PS and 2 cases in Women’s police station.
Sawant said the supreme court had recently rejected the anticipatory bail filed by Pereira.
“He has 3 cases in Verna police under the arms act and complaints were filed that he would threaten by others by using firearms. We have taken him for a medical checkup and are investigating the case,” Sawant said.
On Wednesday, a case was registered against him in the Colva police station by the Majorda Panchayat Secretary for allegedly threatening him. Pereira was arrested under Sections 323, 506, 504, rw 34 IPC and Section 8 of Goa Children’s Act and Section 3 rw 25 of Arms Act,” the DySP added.
According to sources, Pereira is alleged to have trespassed into a property in 2015 and threatened the owner with a firearm, while some children were reportedly attending tuition classes in his house.
Pereira is also alleged to have fired in the air while the panic-stricken children ran away in fear.
“In a particular case, he had applied for anticipatory bail in the Sessions Court and after the bail was not granted, Pereira approached the High Court. When Pereira was not granted bail by the HC, he approached the Supreme Court where his bail was rejected in a recent order,” said DySP Sawant. Verna police is further investigating the case.
