Verna police has registered offences against Olencio Simoes, Orville Dourado Rodrigues and Kelvin Spencer Viegas in connection with an assault on each other at the Verna police station on Friday.
According to Verna police, the incident took place at about 3.10 am in the premises of Verna Police Station, when the three accused persons had gone to the Verna Police Station, in connection with one assault matter at Velsao.
Police stated that while they were at the Verna police station premises, all three accused persons fought between themselves, thereby disturbing the public peace and hence, committed an offence of affray. During the fight, all three accused persons sustained simple injuries.
Acting on a complaint by Verna PSI Utkrantrao U Desai, Verna Police registered a case under Sections 323, 160 IPC and LPSI Karishma Prabhu is investigating the case.
GRE questions police for defaming association

The Goencho Ramponkarancho Ekvott (GRE) on Saturday questioned the police for defaming the association and said statements made against the GRE were false.
In a press release, GRE President Agnelo Rodrigues stated that they had a normal monthly meeting on April 20.
“We all returned home after the meeting but if there was any other issue that happens at night in the village, GRE will not interfere in that issue because it can be a personal issue and the police is there to handle that issue.”
“The police must not take the name of the GRE in that issue and target our union because the GRE has not filed a complaint and we keep our issues within ourselves. The GRE is not aware of the issue of the assault and why it has happened,” said Rodrigues.
"The police have no right to involve the GRE and make a statement on the GRE in this issue which defames the union. The entire village is fighting against the railway works. This is different from the GRE meeting and different from the assault case incident. Such defamatory statements, if repeated by any officials, are liable to attract legal action and defamation case in accordance to the provisions of the law,” said Rodrigues.
