Work of extension of sewer lines in left out areas of Margao in execution stage, HC told

SIDCGL in affidavit states 90% work in Colmorod has been completed

MARGAO
The Sewerage Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa Ltd has submitted to the High Court that the work of extension of sewer lines in left out areas of Margao is in the execution stage.

In an affidavit filed before the High Court in the Public Interest Litigation filed by Navelim resident Antonio Alvares over discharge of sewage and kitchen water in the Salpem lake, the SIDCGL said the agency appointed for the work of extension of sewer line in Colmorod has completed around 90 per cent of the work.

The affidavit stated that around four residential complexes are yet to be connected on the stretch in Colmorod, where the sewer line is laid. The work of connecting these four buildings to the public sewer system will be taken up at the earliest, the affidavit stated.

It further stated that the work of extension of sewer line in left out areas of Margao is in execution stage. Star Infra Projects & Traders, Flat No. 4, Pinhoire Bldg, Aquem, Margao-Goa is the agency allotted the said work.

“Altogether out of the five stretches, two stretches have been completed. One stretch is under execution phase & will be completed soon. The balance two stretches will commence after the issue of road cutting NOC from National Highway Office, Fatorda. i.e. would be around 15/10/2023,” the affidavit stated.

In respect of the Azad Nagar locality, the affidavit stated that work for connecting houses in Azad Nagar area is under progress. “The work is allotted to Essel Constructions, Mugali, Curtorim. Out of the three lanes, one lane is completed comprising of 50 houses. The work will have to be stopped due to the monsoons and same will be continued after monsoons,” the affidavit stated.

The SIDCGL further stated that out of the 152 Houses at Azad Nagar, Margao, 94 applications are received and balance 58 are awaited.

The agency, however, told the court that the work will be stopped in view of the monsoons and the same will resume only after October 15, 2023 and the directions issued by the authorities restricting road cutting.

Though the toilets at migrant inhabited Azad Nagar are connected to the underground sewerage line, the kitchen water from the 150-odd tenements at the colony had no facility for discharge of the water into the underground line as a result of which the water was flowing into the storm water drain, which later found its way into the Salpem lake, contaminating the once picturesque water body.
