Workshop on mediation held in Valpoi

The Sattari Taluka Legal Services Committee (STLSC) Valpoi and North Goa District Legal Services Authority, Panaji, organised a mediation awareness programme at the Civil Court in Valpoi.
The awareness was organised to promote the importance of mediation in court cases.
Valpoi JMFC Shubada Dalvi advised the citizens to create a peaceful environment rather than disrupting the society.
“People should have the single intention of creating a more peaceful environment rather than involving in conflicts which disrupt society and ultimately harm the party involved in the conflict in the longer run,” Dalvi said.
Citing the importance of mediation, Dalvi further said mediation helps the individual and gives clarity of thoughts and enables better decision-making process.
Resource person and trained mediator Adv Swati Kerkar said mediation is a means of transforming mind and practice which helps to cultivate new and more positive ways in the case.
She further said the apex court has set up mediation for encouraging amicable resolution of disputes pending in courts.
Kerkar said in mediation, both the parties can speak what is in their mind which is kept confidential and can even break apart their internal grudges.
“Mediation helps the parties to look for joy that does not diminish or turn into negative emotions,” stated Kerkar, while giving an example of a divorce case resolved through mediation.
STLSC Valpoi president Adv Yeshwant Gauns and Adv Ganpat Gaonkar also spoke on the occasion.
Social worker Uma Kanekar was also present. Adv B Mayekar compered the programme, while Trupti Sawant proposed the vote of thanks.
