Aiming at promoting Yoga in educational institutions, the State Government has proposed Yoga classes for three hours admissible in a week for high schools. Additionally, the government will appoint Yoga teachers in 180 government primary schools across the State. Speaking to media persons at a press conference, Chief
Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said, “We want to promote Yoga in educational institutions.
So from this year, we have proposed three admissible hours in a week for yoga in
high schools.” Parsekar, however, informed that Yoga classes are not compulsory and those interested can take it up. Furthermore, 15 government primary schools in each
taluka have been identified to promote Yoga from July wherein Yoga teachers will be
appointed on contact basis. “We have identified nearly 180 government primary schools across the State with an enrolment of at least 30 students. They will be provided
with yoga teachers on contract basis. We have not given this facility to aided institutions
as they have to create this facility through the aid provided to them”, he said. The teachers to be appointed will be from Yoga institutions across the State, especially Patanjali.
“Patanjali has well trained instructors. Additionally, they have even formulated yoga
syllabus formulated. If any of the teachers are part-time, and have a flair for yoga, then
they can be accommodated here as full time teachers by giving him additional lectures”,
he informed. Meanwhile, the government has decided to appoint watchmen and librarians on contract basis in aided high schools across the State. “Nearly 250 aided institutions which have a minimum enrolment of 250 students will be provided one watchman each. The minimum educational qualification should be Std VIII pass and the salary paid to them would be Rs 9,000 per month. Additionally, independent librarians will be provided to 189 educational institutions”, he said. Librarians to be appointed
should have a minimum qualification of Std X and a library course certificate. “In most likelihood there won’t be many candidates who have completed library courses. So first preference will be given to those who have completed a diploma or a certificate course in library. And if they don’t have this, they will have to complete the certificate or diploma within 2 years”, he said. Nonetheless, he also stated that para teachers who held a protest recently demanding regularisation of their services, could also be accommodated
as librarians. “As they have completed many years of service, the age criteria will not be binding upon them”, he said.
