CANACONA

Bus sheds are usually a much-needed facility for the public during the summer and rains, but a number of bus sheds in Canacona are virtually useless as they have been covered with creepers and bushes.
As part of its pre-monsoon works, the PWD had only cleared some roadside gutters in some parts of Major District Road (MDR-49) and other internal roads in Canacona taluka, leaving out the bus sheds in the area.
At Agonda, at least two major bus sheds have been completely covered with creepers and bushes.
“Where do we seek protection from rains while waiting for buses to arrive? Forget about sitting facilities, we cannot even enter these bus sheds with all the bushes and creepers covering the sheds,” complained a commuter waiting for a bus to arrive at the Panna bus stop in Agonda.
“The leaking roof has also made the bus sheds unsafe for people,” the commuter added.
When contacted, Agonda Sarpanch Badal Naikgaunkar blamed the PWD for ignoring its duties, thereby leaving the bus sheds unsafe for public use.
“They have only partially cleaned roadside gutters. They have not attended to bushes covering a portion of the road and have not cleaned the bus sheds. The PWD should act and clean the bus sheds, while also repair the roofs to prevent leakages during monsoons,” said Naikgaunkar.
