Invigorated by its recent designation as a ‘national party’ by the Election Commission of India (ECI) the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday hinted it will contest both the Lok Sabha seats in the State in the 2024 general election.
AAP’s State in-charge Deepak Singla who addressed a press conference along with the party’s State leaders said the party achieved national status in a short 10-year span adding that it proves the ‘Kejriwal Model’ is the future of governance in India.
“AAP formed the government in Delhi three times. Last year we formed the government in Punjab. States like Gujarat and Goa have given AAP enormous support,” Singla said, adding that hard work of leaders and volunteers enabled national status in such a short period.
AAP’s State convenor, Amit Palekar meanwhile hinted that the party has begun identifying potential candidates and some of the party’s national leaders including Singla are in Goa confabulating on strategy and the way forward.
“Despite all attempts by rivals to derail us, the AAP has brought out positive politics in the country. Due to greater responsibility with gaining national status, we will now focus on fortifying our party to provide the people of Goa better politics,” Palekar said.
The party’s Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas pointed out that AAP, through its governments in Delhi and now Punjab, is the only political party in the country to have made notable strides in the education and public healthcare sectors.
“Additionally, we strived to provide the common people basic necessities like 24-hour electricity and water supply, something that other national parties like the BJP or Congress have failed to do despite long stints in power,” Viegas said, adding that the ‘Kejriwal model’ has evolved into an unique form of governance.
