The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) including its two MLAs -- Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva -- held a protest demonstration outside the headquarters of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the capital to protest against the arrest of their leader and Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam case.
The two MLAs and a score of party leaders and volunteers held placards and resorted to sloganeering to protest what they called was the Modi government's 'vendetta politics' and mocked the Central government for its agencies failing to take on the Adani group, which has been the target of accusations of irregularities in financial markets.
Viegas alleged that the action against Sisodia is politically motivated since Delhi is firmly in AAP’s grip and the BJP has got massively defeated there over the last few years.
“2020 Assembly BJP was thrashed. 2023 MCD, they got thrashed. Now in 2024, they will…BJP is clearly rattled. So the world’s best education minister Manish Sisodia is arrested in a false case to tarnish AAP by caged parrot CBI. The truth will prevail,” a tweet by Viegas said.
He also said Goa's youth were looking forward to developing the education sector like the one Sisodia has in Delhi.
AAP's spokesperson Valmiki Naik alleged that AAP leaders are being arrested because the party is gaining popularity among masses.
“Our Leaders be it, Sisodia or Satyender Jain, are being targeted. People of India know who Manish Sisodia is, he has begun a revolution for India in the field of education,” Naik said.
The protesters also termed Sisodia's arrest "height of dictatorship."
Meanwhile, reacting to the AAP protests outside their office BJP State president, Sadanand Tanavade said it was unfortunate to see the AAP leaders protesting in an attempt to whitewash the image of their corrupt leaders arrested in the Delhi liquor scam.
