Cancelled Kala Utsav to be rescheduled in Gaondongrim

This time, ministers, MLAs unlikely to be invited to the art and cultural festival

PANAJI

After cancelling the 5th Kala Utsav which had been scheduled to take place in Indrawada-Gaondongrim on February 11, the local organisers have plans to reschedule the art and cultural festival but they are not likely to invite any politician this time.

According to sources, differences emerged over the cancellation of the prestigious ‘Kala Utsav’ following the alleged feud between Speaker and Canacona MLA Ramesh Tawadkar and Art and Culture Minister Govind Gaude.

The local organisers, Indreshwar Youth Club of Indrawada-Gaondongrim, which had successfully organised the last four editions of the Kala Utsav to packed audiences, had reportedly convened two meetings to discuss the issue, to decide on the new date and the likely guest list.

During the second such meeting, which was attended by a large number of villagers, there were plans to shortlist February 25 as the new date to stage the ‘5th Kala Utsav’.

The 5th Kala Utsav had been originally scheduled to take place on February 11, but the event was cancelled the previous day following differences over the inclusion and exclusion of the certain VIP guests.

According to sources, many villagers are reported to have vented out their anger over the cancellation of mega event in the village, following political differences.

Many of them reportedly asked the organisers not to include any politician, either local or outstation, in the guest list when the event is rescheduled.

“Following these developments, it is likely that the 5th Kala Utsav, which has been organised by the IYC, Indrawada-Gaondongrim in association with Directorate of Art and Culture, is likely to exclude politicians, including the Sarpanch, MLAs and ministers, as chief guests, guests of honour and special invitees from the guest list,” said a source.
