A 43-year-old police constable attached to the Security Unit at Panaji was killed in an accident between two bikes at Lower Jetty, Sada-Vasco, late Sunday evening.
Sources in Mormugao Police station said the mishap accident occurred when a motorcycle (GA-06-AC-1151) driven by the cop, Nitesh Kalangutkar, and a motorcycle (GA-06-B-6147) driven by Rohit Bind collided with each other.
"During enquiry, it was revealed that the bike rider, Rohit Bind, was moving from Sada towards Vasco and while overtaking another vehicle, came on the wrong side and dashed against Kalangutkar, who was moving towards Sada,” said a source.
“Both riders were shifted to the GMC for treatment where Nitesh Kalangutkar succumbed to injuries late Sunday night.”
Kalangutkar well known in the area as he was previously posted at the Vasco Police station, Vasco Traffic Cell and had even served as the PSO to a Minister.
