The Goa Forward Party on Monday demanded that Goa University stop all ongoing recruitments and also conduct an inquiry into the recruitments carried out by the University over the last eight years.
The regional outfit also demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who also holds the Education portfolio, should come clean on the recruitments undertaken by Goa University and the injustices done to the educated Goan youth.
Addressing the media, Goa Forward Party leaders Prashant Naik and Dilip Prabhudesai said that when questions have been raised about the transparency of Goa University’s recruitment process, it should immediately be put on hold. “We demand that Goa University stop the ongoing recruitment process and come clean on the issue. We strongly feel that recruitment rules, including provisions relating to domicile and knowledge of Konkani language, were disregarded to accommodate certain candidates,” they said.
Naik further demanded that since the Chief Minister is also the state’s Education Minister, he should order a high-level probe into the recruitments done by Goa University to ensure that justice is meted out to the educated Goan youth.
Naik also demanded to know why Goa University has not taken the process to recruit Assistant Librarians to its logical conclusion when the process was initiated around eight months ago.
“In the recent past, the Goa Forward Party had created a ruckus at Goa University to demand justice for the Goan youth. But we have found that the University is not transparent in its administrative functioning, especially in respect of recruitments,” Naik said while warning that Goa Forward will not hesitate to launch a much bigger agitation to secure justice for the Goan youth.
“Why is there a delay by Goa University in filling up the four posts of junior librarians to date? This only goes to show there is something fishy in the recruitment process. Is the delay because the University has candidates in mind hailing from outside the state?” Naik questioned.
