The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has issues notices to four houses in the landslide-prone areas of Vaddem, directing the occupants to vacate their houses.
According to sources, the MMC technical section issued the notices after a 65-year-old woman was killed when a huge boulder came crashing down into her house late Monday night.
"There was a landslide at Vaddem due to heavy rains on Monday midnight and large boulders came down. One such boulder rolled down and fell on the house of Anita Borkar, who died on the spot,” said a source.
“On the basis of an inspection by the MMC technical section, occupants in four houses continue to be vulnerable to landslides as many boulders are on the verge of rolling down.”
“To avert any danger to lives, inmates have to vacate these four houses immediately and stay away from landslide-prone areas. In case they don't have any place to stay, they can be provided with temporary shelter," said the source.
