Leakages develop at historic Saptakoteshwar temple

BICHOLIM

Criticising the substandard works following leakages and other issues at the historic Saptakoteshwar Temple in Narvem-Bicholim which was restored at a cost of about Rs 7 crore earlier this year, Minister for Archeology Department Subhash Phaldesai has said an investigation would be conducted in the matter.

Phaldesai along with Mayem MLA Premendra Shet visited the temple on Wednesday to inspect the condition of the temple and they were shocked to find leakages at the upper and lower portions of the temple and issues with the electrical work. They also found the tiles slippery.

The contractor, consultant and Devasthan office bearers were present during the inspection. The minister said a thorough inquiry would be conducted into the overall restoration work at this temple.
It is understood that the archaeology department had allotted the supervision of the work to the PWD and Phaldesai was unhappy that the PWD had failed to ensure proper monitoring of the works at the temple.
The famous temple had been renovated recently and devotees were shocked with leakages at the temple in short time, prompting MLA Premendra Shet to demand a proper inquiry in the matter.
