Conceding that some persons with vested interests have fielded candidates in some of the Panchayat areas in Navelim constituency for the ensuing polls, Navelim BJP MLA Ulhas Tuemkar has exuded confidence that people will only cast their vote for the party-backed candidates in the fray.

Fielding questions of a number of BJP workers in the fray for the ensuing Panchayat polls in Navelim constituency at a media briefing  held to announce the celebration of India’s Independence, Ulhas has mulled inquiry into the anti-party activities resorted to by some leaders in the constituency.

He further said that party spokesperson Urfan Mulla is part of the panel of BJP-backed candidates in the fray for the Rumdamol-Davorlim village panchayat polls, adding that efforts are underway to ensure that the party-backed candidates emerge victorious.

Ulhas said that around 2-3 party workers are in the fray in some of the wards, crossing swords against each other. He, however, exuded confidence that they will also rally behind the party after the polls.

Admitting that party leaders with vested interests have fielded candidates in the fray, the MLA pointed out that people will see through the game of some leaders.

Saying around 26 party-backed candidates are contesting elections for the Rumdamol, Aquem-Baixo, Davorlim and Navelim panchayats, Ulhas said the party candidates have evoked good response from the people.

Making a fervent plea to the voters to elect party-backed candidates, the Navelim MLA said the double engine BJP government will usher in the development of the villages. “People of Goa have witnessed the all round development of the villages, including roads and bridges”, he said, adding that electing party-backed candidates will help usher further development of the villages.
