MARGAO
Former Margao Municipal Chairperson, Savio Coutinho, who heads the city-based NGO, Shadow Council for Margao, had a couple of questions to ask the consultant Studio Pod during the Power point presentation in the Margao Municipal hall last week.
After the Consultant Mahesh Waghmare concluded the presentation, Coutinho posed a pointed question “ whether the commercial hub proposed in the south of the Margao railway station will come up on the GSUDA-acquired fields admeasuring 28,000 square metres or on the neighbouring fields owned by private owners as well.
“I had raised the question before the consultant for the simple reason that I fear and suspect that some vested interests may try to propose big projects with a game plan to force the private owners part with their properties or face land acquisition. We have faced such a situation in the past and we fear that certain elements may try to pressurize private owners to surrender their properties or face acquisition’, Coutinho added.
