Protesting Cong leaders detained, reiterate demand for judicial probe into jobs for cash and white paper on govt vacanc

Congress leaders and workers, protesting against the failure to initiate a judicial inquiry into the jobs for cash scam, were detained today.

South MP Viriato Fernandes and party President Amit Patkar among others including NSUI members were detained by Panaji police while staging the protest at Azad Maidan. They also demanded a white paper on the vacancies in govt depts.

Earlier today, police were deployed in large numbers to maintain law and order.

MP Fernandes slammed that govt betrayed Goa's educated youth. "This racket has shattered the dreams of deserving candidates," he said.

Patkar also lashed out at the government, alleging that unemployment in Goa had reached unprecedented levels under Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's administration.

"The BJP treats jobs as commodities for sale. Ministers, their personal assistants, and even senior officials are involved in this scam. We demand a white paper on current government vacancies and an independent judicial inquiry under a High Court judge," he said.

The Congress also condemned inaction against senior officials implicated in the scam. "Despite clear evidence, the CM has failed to ensure accountability. If he cannot act, he must resign," Patkar demanded.
