A total of 17 scrapyards in Colvale have been issued show-cause notices by the Bardez Deputy District Collector.The notices come as a response to a fire incident at a scrapyard in Mushirwada-Colvale on December 28 which destroyed four scrapyards in the fire.
The action was taken by the Deputy District Collector under Section 33 of the Land Revenue Act based on complaints by the local panchayat in 2019.
The scrapyards storing plastic and other scrap items are located on sheds constructed on agricultural land in 2011.
The Deputy Collector has issued directives to scrapyard owners to be present with conversion sanad papers from the competent authority, permission from town planning department or North Goa Planning Development Authority, construction plan sanctioned by the competent authority, issued construction permit, NOC from Pollution Control Board as well as Waste Management office.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Collector had given orders to cut off electricity connections and water supply to scrapyards in Colvale on December 30 and acting on the directives, the PWD and electricity departments had cut off power connections and water supply to these scrapyards.
