‘No block chiefs will contest 2022 elections’

Congress election observer P Chidambaram on Sunday asserted that no block president will contest the 2022 Assembly election, even as he asked the block heads to remain strictly neutral.

He said the block presidents can contest future elections for the municipal and panchayat bodies as they will be required to lead the troops in the battlefield in 2022.

“We have issued strict instructions to the block presidents that they should be strictly neutral. They cannot lean in favour of any person or against any person. He must be strictly neutral,” he added.

Saying the block presidents are like the commanders on the battlefield, Chidambaram said the 40 block chiefs will lead the party workers on the field in the 2022 election.
