Parliament paralysed for 12th day

The fracas over coal block allocations continued for the twelfth day in Parliament today as BJP members vociferously demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned till noon afteropposition triggered ruckus on the issue. Members of the DMK AIADMK, CPI andViduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) were in the Well raising the Sri Lankaissue.

DMK members were opposing the training of Sri Lankan armedforces at an airbase in India, while AIADMK and VCK members protested theupcoming visit of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa to Madhya Pradesh.

In the Lok Sabha, Speaker Meira Kumar took up the QuestionHour after making an obituary reference to the victims of the fire tragedy inSivakasu in Tamil Nadu.

After observing silence for a while, the BJP members troopedto the Well raising slogans against the Prime Minister over the coal blockallocation.

As the din continued, the Speaker adjourned the House tillnoon.

When the Rajya Sabha met for the day, it mourned the loss oflives in a devastating fire at a cracker manufacturing unit in Sivakasi inTamil Nadu yesterday.

Soon after, the House the plunged into turmoil as BJPmembers shouted slogans demanding resignation of the Prime Minister. Some SPmembers were up on their feet but they could not be heard in the din.

Chairman Hamid Ansari tried to restore order in the Houseand called for first listed question of the day but BJP members wereunrelenting.

He then adjourned the House till noon.

Coal scam: CBI files FIR against five companies

The CBI today registered cases against five companies and unknown government officials as part of its probe into alleged irregularities in allocation of coal blocks and carried out searches across 10 cities.

According to CBI spokesperson, five FIRs have been filedagainst five companies and unknown government officials for alleged cheating.The agency sleuths were also conducting searches at 30places in ten cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Patna, Hyderabad,Dhanbad and Nagpur, the spokesperson said.The filing of FIRs comes three months after registration ofa Preliminary Enquiry into the coal scam by the agency on the directions of theCentral Vigilance Commission.During the…
