Let us sing a requiem for our beloved Goa

Finally, the Assembly elections are behind us and once again the saffron brigade will rule the State for the next 5 years with its anti-people policies. All exit polls predictions which were in favour of the Congress went haywire. Rightly said that the splitting of anti-incumbency votes by TMC, AAP and RGP helped the BJP in securing the required numbers in government formation. Everybody was on tenterhooks to know the results. 

However, looking at the voting pattern, one can assume strange are the ways of the electorate who by and large made it a bipolar contest between the BJP and Congress. 

Even the stronghold of the Salcete bastion, Navelim, has been steamrolled by little known Ulhas Tuemkar of BJP, but the silver lining in the otherwise murky politics are the Congress MLA-elect Adv Carlos Ferreira from Aldona and Independent Dr Chandrakant Shetye from Bicholim who are expected to provide a healthy debate in the assembly. In all this conundrum of a questionable verdict mired by machinations and manipulation, let us sing the requiem of our beloved Goa.

Whenever there is an apprehension of a rise in the price of fuel, one sees serpentine queues at petrol stations. The sole aim is to fill the fuel tank to the maximum before the price rise. A few days back one witnessed long queues at petrol stations in anticipation of a rise in prices due to the continued hostilities between Russia and Ukraine.
