With prospective drying up of Mhadei due to its branch being diverted or consumed, fresh potable water might become scarce. Water usage should be regulated by all. Ground water is either being contaminated with sewage effluents and other toxic contaminants making potable well water undrinkable. People must explore ways of conservation with rain water harvesting in storage underground tanks which could be used for different purposes, besides consumption. This type of water should be periodically disinfected with potassium permanganate or other edible disinfectants which are available. With climatic changes happening and monsoon intensity which could diminish over the years, this may lead to droughts or a rear scarcity of this valuable commodity. Mega projects being planned or sanctioned with impunity should be stalled for want of basic amenities. Unhindered usage of water commercially or by way of usage in swimming pools and construction purposes should be regulated. Large car washing stations which lavishly use water need to be regulated. Government should explore the possibility of sea water filtration, purification and supply on trial basis of commercial runs, by installing such plants.
