Chicalim Bio-crusaders reportedly showcased heritage sites in Chicalim for class XII Science students of St Andrew’s Higher Secondary’ School in Vasco to mark World Heritage Day. This is a very good move by the organisers and needs to become a regular feature involving students from other Higher Secondary Schools.
It must be said the youth of today need to take over the responsibility of protecting our heritage sites. Students also need to be made aware of our natural wealth like the water bodies, mangroves, fields, etc. and the importance of protecting the ecosystem. A regular study tour of nature needs to be incorporated in the school/college curriculum.
However, young people need to strike a balance between their studies and protecting our state which is being destroyed by the politicians. Young people can play an active role in protecting and improving the environment. Engaging youth in environmental protection not only has a direct impact on changing youth behaviours and attitudes, but possibly influences their parents, relatives and families.
