According to reports in the media, a poor Benaulim local was dealt a deadly loss of most of his life savings. He had to suffer a loss in the incineration of two of his canoes and fishing nets, charred beyond recognition. He says that the loss was to tune of Rs15 lakhs if not more. Some miscreant set all his properties ablaze and took off in the cover of darkness without being noticed by anyone, not even captured by CCTV cameras which were not installed anywhere around. Sniffer dogs or forensic finger prints should be pressed into action to nail the culprit. The government has to install CCTVs everywhere on beaches for added security and for curtailing any other sabotage attempts on cars and allied properties. The government should pay compensation to the owner in the event of such mishaps. It's a hard life for a fisherman, toiling the whole day and night, sometimes harvesting a bountiful and at times a meagre catch. The government needs to have a relook at this and compensate owners in the event of such losses.
