The upcoming Lok Sabha elections are crucial for shaping our country’s future and the lives of its people. Every right-thinking Goan dreams of harmonious living for all communities under the new government, which must uphold our constitution without discrimination. The RGP in Goa has been championing the rights of Goans, as evidenced by the election of an MLA from their party. Despite being labelled as a B team of the ruling dispensation, many Goans view them differently.
However, this Lok Sabha election is not about regional parties flexing their muscles but supporting a coalition aiming to defeat the BJP. The RGP should withdraw from the fray to dispel the perception of being a BJP ally, thus garnering support for the 2027 assembly elections. Their absence from the INDIA alliance may inadvertently aid the BJP, jeopardising their future in Goan politics. The downfall of the GF in the 2017 elections serves as a cautionary tale; proximity to the ruling party eroded their credibility, leading to a significant loss in 2022. The RGP should learn from this and focus on the assembly elections, expecting support from true Goans in 2027.
