Blatant misuse of State power against Republic TV and Arnab Goswami is an attack on individual freedom and the fourth pillar of democracy.
It's a political vendetta and the arrest is highly condemnable. The arrest of a journalist in Hathras, Arnab's arrest are all blatant use of power to silence dissident voices. This is to bring to light real facts on unfounded allegations in a closed case.
The defenders of democracy and enforcers of rule of law have shown themselves in the poorest light. The battle between Republic TV and Maharashtra government has taken an ugly turn with the State government misusing State machinery in the worst possible manner to muzzle free speech.
Moreover the arrest of noted journalist Arnab Goswami by Mumbai police has violated the guidelines to protect the rights of arrestee as enumerated in judgment delivered by Supreme Court in D K Basu v. State of West Bengal (AIR 1997 SC 610).
