The CM has in the past kept a distance from the minority community; in fact, he often demonises them much on the lines of his Vishwaguru. But on the day of voting, the milk of human kindness suddenly started coursing through his veins.
Mr Sawant paid an extended visit to the slums of Moti Dongor in Margao city, a Muslim-dominated area, along with master turncoat MLA Digamber Kamat, who wields considerable influence in the area. I wonder whether this foray was to encourage voting, to burnish his secular credentials, or brazen appeasement politics. After his sojourn, Mr Sawant volubly proclaimed that the minorities are with the BJP. This statement makes it seem that the CM’s visit was more of a veiled threat to the Muslims.
