It is learnt that a mammoth 50,000 people from across the state is expected to attend the Viksit Bharat rally to be held today at the Margao KTC bus stand billed in political circles as the launch of the ruling BJP’s campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls at the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Thousands of people attending the rally will reportedly be treated to a sumptuous meal ahead of the meeting. Catering facilities will be provided at as many as four different venues around the KTC bus-stand.
The sprawling SGPDA ground which is being tarred on a war footing will play host to the luncheon part of the rally. The MMC parking lot and the parking lot opposite the KTC bus-stand are other centers where participants can look forward to their lunch. Since lunch will be provided at several venues, waste management will be a huge challenge for the authorities concerned.
It would be in the fitness of things to provide an adequate number of garbage bins at the site. It is a common experience that after a mega event, which is attended by thousands of people, a huge amount of garbage is left behind which takes several days to clear. In keeping with the spirit of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ the entire place needs to be cleared of the garbage and debris in quick time after the mega rally.
