It was interesting to see the assembly proceedings where MLAs, both ruling and opposition, discussed the serious shortcomings of healthcare services in Goa. Ruling MLAs were polite to avoid offending their BJP Party leadership, while opposition MLAs were more vocal. However, the message from both sides was clear: healthcare services, particularly district hospitals and health centres, are in a deplorable state.
Giving credit where it’s due, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane has improved standards at GMC in terms of cleanliness and added speciality services like cancer treatment. But isn’t it true that because other hospitals lack proper support (equipment, doctors, staff, etc.), there is unnecessary pressure on GMC? This adds stress and wastes time for patients, often seeking critical treatment. The Health Minister must remember that he is responsible for all of Goa’s healthcare, not just GMC.
As for Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, it’s hard to believe he isn’t aware of the poor state of healthcare in Goa. If his widely promoted “Double Engine Govt” can’t even provide basic services, then what is the use of all his propaganda?
